Supporting Law Enforcement:
Providing Practical Resources and Gospel Hope
The most effective tool for Law Enforcement's spiritual and emotional well-being is the local church. Statistics show the devastating effects that this career can have on law enforcement officers and their families. Thankfully, more and more departments are open to education and help. The local church should actively support law enforcement and chaplains, as it aligns with the biblical principle of helping those who are hurting.
1 John 3:18 states: "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." This mandate emphasizes the importance of meeting practical needs within the law enforcement community, both spiritually and emotionally. Additionally, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 highlights the church's biblical mandate to help those who are hurting because of the compassion we ourselves received from Jesus Christ. This underscores the church's role in promoting the well-being of both officers and their families.
By creating and supporting Law Enforcement Chaplains, the church creates missionaries to an unreached people group who understand the culture, the language, and the needs, and are trained to minister in practical ways. By offering these resources and building relationships, the church can bring hope and effect positive change. These changes will benefit the broader community by fostering an emotionally and spiritually healthy police force and their families.
